

Shirley Marie Joyner Phillips, 78, of Memphis, passed away April 17, 2015, at her home. The family will gather to receive friends on Monday, April 20, from 5-7 p.m., and funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Family Funeral Care on Summer Avenue. Interment will follow in Forest Hill South Cemetery. Born in Memphis on May 4, 1936, Ms. Phillips graduated from Southside High School, and she retired from Dover Elevator after 30 years of faithful service. She enjoyed life to the fullest! Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Murphy and Beadie Joyner; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Teenie Joyner; and her granddaughter, Tessa. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Phillips Potts and Cheryl Phillips Highland (Malcolm); her son, Bobby Phillips (Laquetta); her grandson, Mike Rutledge, Jr. (Kelsey Sullivan); her great grandson, Dennis Nowell; and her favorite niece, Pat Joyner. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Crossroads Hospice for their amazing care. Shirley struggled with Muscular Dystrophy for most of her life, and they would like to request that any donations in her memory should be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
