Spencer Lee Moore was born December 12,1948 to the late Joe Eddie and Lucille Moore in Mt. Pleasant, MS. He transitioned this life on October 10, 2021, after a brief illness. He was the oldest of eleven children. He grew up in the historic Orange Mound community in Memphis, TN and always cherished the memories of “THE MOUND.” He gave his life to God at Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop J. O. Patterson, Sr. at an early age. Later, he became a member of Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Gilbert E. Patterson and Bishop Milton R. Hawkins where he faithfully served as an usher. In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Debra, and to this union, two sons, Derrick Ramon and Demond Rashad were born. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He served in the Vietnam War and was passionate about helping his fellow Vietnam Veterans. He was Vice President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1113. He was a member of the Melrose High School class of 1966 and through the years, continued to regularly fellowship with his classmates. He began employment with the City of Memphis Fire Department as a Fire Fighter in 1972. He retired in 2002 with the rank of Lieutenant. He was also an active member of the Pioneer Black Firefighters Association. Spencer was known for his trendsetting fashion style and his love for jazz music. He was outgoing and never met a stranger. To know him was to love him and to meet him was to never forget him. He was a caring, giving, and generous person who had a heart to help others. He knew the value of long-lasting relationships and enjoyed fellowshipping with family and friends. One of the joys of his life was becoming a grandfather. He supported them in talks and discussions, school activities, and he enjoyed taking them on fun excursions and eateries. He lived a full and joyful life with class, dignity and “COOLNESS.” He is survived by his sons, Derrick (Melani) Moore of Dallas, TX and Demond (Camalon) Moore of Germantown, TN. He was the proud grandfather of Kameron Moore and Allyson Harris of Memphis, TN, Zachary Moore, and Zoe Moore both of Germantown, TN.
