Stephen (Steve) was born on August 1, 1956 in Louisville, Ky to the late Frances Mae (Eppard)
Kephart and Richard Earnest Kephart of Valley Station, Ky.
Steve chose to lay aside his high school studies at age 17, and joined the U.S. Army, serving in Ft.Knox, KY and Ft.Lee, Va.
Steve was a passionate lover of music, making music with his own hands, whether guitar, organ, piano, or harmonica. He wrote, played, and sang with friends and family everywhere he lived! One song he was working on, to honor his Savior, Jesus Christ was titled "No Lovin' Like His". He made music with his tools, too; woodworking, crafting and building with friends and family anywhere he was needed. Steve was a carpenter by trade.
Steve was preceded in death by his companion in love and best friend, Gail Clay, mother Frances Mae (Eppard) Kephart, father Richard Earnest Kephart, and brother Michael Allen Kephart.
He is survived by his daughter Brandy Clay of Memphis, his daughter Stacy Klatt and grandsons Aiden Crotts and Tyler Crotts of Adamsville, whom he so dearly loved. He is also survived by his sister Judith Kephart of West Palm Beach, FL.
A viewing at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave on March 28th at 9-10:30 will be followed by Military Honors at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill-Irene Rd. Memphis at 11:00.
