

Tasha Jeané Binion Cox, 49, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born on May 23, 1976, in Memphis, Tennessee, to James Binion, Sr. and Mary Glover Binion.
She was christened at two years old at Parkway Gardens Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tennessee. She completed her communicants class at the age of eleven at West End Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia. After returning to Memphis she joined Hope Church in 2019 where she was a member of the prayer team and participated in marriage and family ministry.
She attended Sable Point Elementary School in Longwood, Florida, East Side Elementary School, Dodgen Middle School and graduated from Pope High School in Marietta, Georgia in 1994. She played flute in the concert band in middle school and high school and was in color guard in the marching band in high school. She also was in the Atlanta Olympic Band from 1992 to 1996 where she participated in the Inauguration Parade for President Bill Clinton in 1993, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1994, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. She began her college matriculation at Clark Atlanta University and graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics.
Even from childhood Tasha was an outgoing, kind and loving person. She never met a stranger because she always treated everyone as a friend. She loved participating in scholarship pageants at an early age. She was crowned “Little Miss Black Memphis" at four years old and Miss Global America in 2001. She completed in the top ten in the Miss Black USA pageant and Mrs. Georgia America. She enjoyed performing in stage productions and received a Best Actress Nomination for the Ostrander Awards for her role in "Flyin’ West" at University of Memphis. She also loved volunteering at food banks, homeless shelters and in local government campaigns.
Tasha met the love of her life, Marcus Eldridge Cox, while they were attending the University of Memphis and participating in several on stage plays together. They were married on October 18, 2003, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tasha worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Memphis and later at Rubicon/TravelClick in Atlanta until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and had to take disability retirement.
On August 8, 2007, Tasha gave birth to their only child, a beautiful little baby girl, Mary Kelsey Cox. She was a devoted and loving mother who ensured that her daughter would be healthy, well educated and have a wonderful life.
Tasha was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James and Stacy Glover, her paternal grandparents Jessie and Lillie Pearl Binion, and paternal great grandparents, Chatman and Minnie Mathews.
Tasha leaves to mourn her passing her loving and devoted husband, Marcus, devoted daughter, Mary Kelsey, loving parents, James and Mary Binion, adoring brother, James Binion,Jr(Shanteria), nephew, James Binion III, godmother and aunt, Glennie Bernard, father and mother-in-law, Eldridge and Joann Cox, two brothers-in-law, James Christopher Cox(Vertez), Christopher Morris Chew(Jennifer), one sister-in-law, Tangela Cox(Terrick), three nieces, three nephews, twelve aunts, nine uncles, thirty five cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
