Tommy Hendrix of Horn Lake, MS passed away peacefully in his sleep at 11:43 Saturday night on the 22nd of December. His death was the result of pulmonary fibrosis and its complications with which he struggled for many years. Tommy was born in October of 1952 to Russel and Earline Hendrix. He was the middle of three siblings, his older brother Donald and his baby sister Kathy. Tommy grew up with his family in Frasier, TN. Tommy graduated from West Side High School in 1971. Tommy joined the U.S. military in 1974. After boot camp, Tommy was stationed in Germany as a mechanic in the army until his honorable discharge in 1977. After Tommy returned to the civilian lifestyle he sought employment at the Kellogg’s plant in Memphis, TN, where he remained until he retired in 2014. Having returned home from abroad and entering the workforce, Tommy perused a relationship with Judith Evans. They were married and in March of 1978 he became the father of a beautiful baby girl, Judith Amber Hendrix. She would be his only child. Tommy loved the outdoors and along with hunting and fishing, throughout his life, he enjoyed racing motocross and cruising around the country on his Harley Davidson. He enjoyed sports and for many years, played softball for Kellogg’s on a local league as well as coaching Amber’s elementary soccer and basketball teams.
Tommy is survived by his daughter Judith Amber Geisenhoff, his son-in-law Robert Daniel Geisenhoff, his granddaughter Taylor Elise Geisenhoff, his brother Donald Hendrix, his sister Kathy Byrd; his nephews Danny Hendrix , Josh Meyer, Russ Meyer, Justin Hendrix , Richard Byrd and his nieces Rachel Pope, Morgan Smith, Lindsey Herndon, and Katie Meyer; his great nephews Drew Hendrix, Avery Hendrix, George Meyer, Daniel Herndon, Taylor Herndon, Jack Smith and great nieces Emily Pope, Kersten Hendrix , Raelyn Hendrix, Margaret Pearl Meyer, Lucy Elizabeth Meyer and his mother Earline Hendrix. Tommy is preceded in death by his father Russel Hendrix.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon 2 p.m. December 30, 2018 at Family Funeral Care of Memphis with Tim Shelton officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until service begins. At Tommy’s request he will be cremated and his ashes are to be sprinkled at a predetermined location of his choosing sometime during the spring-summer of 2019. The details of this ceremony are to be determined.
