She was born in Hardeman County, Tennessee on April 16, 1925 to William Andrew and Lorene Terry. Losing her mother at the age of 9 and raising her siblings and half siblings made her the strong woman that we all knew her as. She was a proprietor of many businesses through her lifetime. Vertie leaned on the Lord for all of her life and loved her kids dearly.
She is survived by her sibling Ola Marie George, her children; Cathy Douglas and late husband Robert D. Douglas, Buford H. Jones and wife Katie Ellen Jones, William Andrew Jones and wife Patty Jones, Gary Wayne Jones and wife Theresa Gurley Jones, and Pamela Kay and Samuel Williams. Vertie had 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Vertie Mae was a best friend to her children and the most loving “Granny”, “Gingie”, and “Grandmommy.” She was the rock of her family who admired her for many reasons and will be miss her tremendously.
