Violet Walker

Born to Brady and Gertrude Whitehead, Violet, a native Memphian attended Central High School where she was Co-Editor of the The Central High Warrior. An art major, she graduated with a BFA from Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in 1950. She was Homecoming Queen at Tulane, Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, and selected for membership in Tri Beta National Honorary Biological Fraternity.

After college, Violet was a flight attendant for Chicago and Southern Airlines where her route frequently took her to Cuba and Venezuela. She continued her love of art by studying portrait painting with Paul Penczner, a world renowned artist. Her career as a young portrait artist and teacher was highlighted with art awards and recognition in Memphis and the surrounding area. Shortly after she began her real estate career, she opened her own company, Walker Real Estate. She went on to an illustrious career selling commercial and industrial real estate, but her passion always remained her art work.

Her former husband, Robert Stanton Walker, predeceased her. They had three children Sharon Walker Flynn, Dawn Elise Walker, and Gale (Richard) Brankstone. She also leaves behind two precious grandchildren Lauren (Neil) Marttila and Caitlin Rose Flynn. Also, she is survived by her dear brother Brady Whitehead, Jr. and his daughter, Diana (Tom) Pierce.

Family and friends will gather for a catered gathering on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from five o'clock until seven o'clock in the evening. Funeral services will begin at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday April 22. All services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home located at 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family has requested donations in her honor be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital . Online condolences and customary remembrances may be offered through www.memphisfuneralhome.net.
