He retired from Memphis State University after 15 years of service. Before that he owned numerous businesses. He lived most of his life in Memphis before moving to Coldwater, Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Hazel Mae Young Ruark, as well as five brothers, Carl, Lynn, Hubert, Sanford and Sydney and his two sisters, May and Earline.
He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Mary Ruark, his brother Donnie Ruark of Largo, Florida. His sons Richard Ruark (June), Mike Ruark (Debbie), Glenn Young, and Ronnie Young. His daughter, Judy Light (Steven) as well as ten grandchildren and many Great, Great-Great and one Great-Great-Great Grandchild.
A visitation for Pops will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
