

W.C. LYON, 97, of Memphis went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2013. This kind, honest man of utmost integrity was the son of the late John and Hattie Lyon. An extraordinary man of faith, W.C. taught Sunday School for 70 years and had been an ordained Baptist Deacon for 60 years. He was a member of Trafalgar Village Baptist Church where he taught the Adult Mens Sunday School class. W.C. began his career in Memphis 69 years ago at Colonial Bakery and eventually built his own route sales business where he was actively employed until just about a year ago. He loved gardening, sports and his family, but most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. W.C. is survived by his wife of 72 years, Irene Jenkins Lyon; two children, Michael Lyon and Carolyn (Paul) Cecil of Memphis; five grandchildren, Patte (Stan) Holden, Doug (Cindy) Cecil, Julie (Bryan) Penn, Kim (Greg) Brewer and Joshua Lyon; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The oldest of nine children, he leaves behind four surviving siblings, Lois Evans, Virginia (Sam) Tune, Ottis (Martha) Lyon, and Roxie Boone; four who have gone on before him, Johnnie Ruth Lyon, Lloyd Lyon, Marie Crawley and Frances Hall and a host of adoring family and friends. A celebration of W.C.’s life and legacy will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue at 11 a,m, on Saturday, August 3 with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trafalgar Village Baptist Church.
