It is with great sadness, we announce the death of Constance (“Connie”) Olive Walsh (Dumas) on the afternoon of August 29th, 2024. She passed away peacefully under the care of hospice and with her son, Terrence (“Terry”), lovingly by her side. Connie had been surrounded in love through the constant care of her sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends in the final months prior to her passing. Known as Mom by her children, Nana by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Honey by her husband, devout by the church, and as dear friend to many others.
Connie was born to Ernest Dumas and Louise Paradis, on the 1st of December 1930 in Flint, Michigan. In the wake of her father’s untimely death at 43, Connie along with her mother and siblings relocated from Pasadena, CA. to Lewiston, ME. where they resided on the family farm with her Aunt. Following the remarriage of her mother, the family moved to Limerick, ME and it was here where she met and married George (“Mike,” “Mickey”) at the age of 17.
This is where many of her adventures in travel began. Some of their residences include Key West, FL., Trinidad in the British West Indies, Honolulu, HI., El Centro, CA., Alameda, CA., and eventually coming “home” to San Diego, CA. where they resided for approximately 30 years. They arrived in Sun City, CA. in 1998 to live out their final years.
Connie’s relationship with her husband could be described by the many who knew them as feisty, loyal, and loving. She was a devoted wife beyond their 64 years of marriage, wearing her wedding ring as a testament of this devotion until the day of her passing. Ever the example of an exemplary military wife she managed a tight ship while he was not home; keeping an immaculate ledger of their accounts, feeding their 4 boys and whomever they brought home on any given day, and contributing any and all spare time to the church.
While Connie described herself as a homemaker, she was that (for certain) and so much more for all who knew her. Her many interests and skills included sewing, quilting, crocheting, crafting, gardening, baking, and playing a mean game of cards! Although she was considered a godly woman, she was also known for her fierce competitiveness! With a twinkle in her eye, shaking the dice in both hands like a true champion, she shared many laughs during “friendly” yahtzee games with her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren over the years.
Connie lived a life of service to the church not only volunteering her time but donating many homemade quilts, crocheted blankets, and holiday crafts for the church bazaars and social events. She served for many years as the craft club’s Artistic Coordinator, which was in charge of liturgical banners at St. Jeromes in San Diego, CA. She also donated countless preemie beanies, booties, and blankets to the local hospital. A cause near and dear to her own heart. Her hands were literally ALWAYS doing something! For those who have known Connie through years, one could easily tell how hard she worked. Her family also benefited greatly from her generosity and milestone events were often marked by a special quilt. Cherished always.
Upon moving to Sun City 26 years ago, she had done what she always had. She made a home for herself at church and within her community at The Club. She volunteered at The Club on various social committees and she along with her husband were often the first and the last to leave any given social event. She thoroughly enjoyed the social dances, costume parties, and various game nights. Beyond that she appreciated the neverending support and love she received throughout the years.
Connie is preceded by her brother Peter Dumas (1945), daughter Kathleen (1951), husband George (“Mike,” “Mickey”) (2012), sisters Jeannette Cobb (2023) of Somersworth, NH. and Dolores Carroll (2024) of Limerick, ME. , and son Michael (2024) of Topsham, ME. She is survived by son Terrence (Terry) of San Diego, CA., son and daughter-in-law Timothy (Tim) and Jeanne of Menifee, CA., son Douglas (Doug) of Killeen, TX., 6 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A prayer service for Connie will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at St Vincent Ferrer Church, 27931 Murrieta Rd, Menifee, CA 92586, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Walsh Family will host a Celebration of Life in honor of Connie to be held at The Club following the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Family is requesting an RSVP for interested Club residents. Sign-up sheet will be located in the front entrance of The Club banquet room, for those interested please RSVP no later than Thursday, September 12th by 12:00 PM.
