Mark Howes Allen

Mark Howes Allen was born in North Adams, MA on August 7, 1944 to Elmer Howes Allen and Margaret Hutchinson Allen. Mark was a graduate of Waconah Regional High School in Dalton, MA. After HS, Mark served in the US Air Force for 4 years as a Radio Technician. After the AF, he went to work for AT&T beginning his long career in Data Processing in White Plains, NY, Cincinnati, OH, Piscataway, NJ, and Fairhaven, MA. Leaving AT&T in 1989, as a manager, Mark relocated his family to Encinitas, CA to begin his work at Peregrine Systems, where he moved up the ranks and left the company in 1995 as Sr. Executive Vice President. After his tenure at Peregrine Systems, Mark worked at a variety of companies in CA and CO until he retired in 2006. Upon retirement, Mark shared his gifts by spending a year at Camp Love in MS coordinating Katrina relief efforts for UMCOR, volunteering at Scripps Hospital, serving San Dieguito United Methodist Church as Board of Trustee chair and supervising the Sanctuary remodel.

Mark met his wife, Cheryl Decker Allen, while working at AT&T. They were wed on February 14, 1970 and just celebrated 54 years of marriage. They welcomed their first child, Jason in 1973 and their second child, Rachel in 1976. The family settled in California in 1989/1990 and has remained here since. Mark’s interests were many which included family, travel, golf, tennis, service, singing in the church choir, playing softball and reading.

Mark is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his son Jason and his wife Mandy, his daughter, Rachel Tabutol and her husband Warren, his grandchildren, Katie Allen, Brooke Allen, Reagan Allen, Maya Tabutol, Mark Tabutol, his brother, Stephen Allen, his sister, Rachel Tierney, and nephews and niece.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Dieguito UMC Mark Allen Memorial fund, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas, CA 92024.

A Celebration of Life Service is planned for April 27 at 11 AM PDT at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas, CA 92024.
