Chee was an amazing woman who has left this earth too soon. Her and I worked together at Valley Crisis Center for a couple years, and her compassion for our clients was admirable.  Chee's joyous personality always lit up the room and she always made people feel welcomed and appreciated. 
Some of my favorite memories of Chee were when we randomly ran into each other in town. We talked about the importance of self-care on a Tuesday evening outside the movie theater, saw each other at community events, the grocery store, and even at Panera bread. Chee had this amazing ability to lift people's spirits and she will truly be missed. 
My condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones. May you all be surrounded with strength, love, and peace during this time. 

Chee was one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. Her love and passion to help those in need was not only heartwarming but a lesson to anyone watching. She treated everyone with respect and kindness. She always listened to any concerns you have or if you just needed to talk. Chee taught me so much about advocacy and the challenges communities of color still face and how we can help survivors overcome these challenges. Chee also, had a contagious smile, and a kind heart who always put the well being of everyone before her own. We will miss you Chee. I will forever miss your laugh and sweet smile, your words of encouragement and the faith you had in me to carry out important tasks. Thank you for believing in me, and always listening, and helping me grow into who I am today. You will be missed dearly, I promise to carry on your legacy to help survivors, and never forget you. I remember when Chee was newly hired at Valley Crisis Center. Her compassion and drive to make those who stayed with the shelter program was inspiring. It was no surprise when she was promoted to Shelter Coordinator. She had the unique ability to see strength in others even when they themselves couldn't. She knew how to build upon those strengths and encouraged people to be the best they could, like she did for me. She saw potential in me and gave me the ability to show what I could do. When she was further promoted to the Program Director position, she brought me along as she saw the potential I had could be used in the office. I owe a lot of where I am to her and her loss is a hole in not only my heart but the heart of everyone she touched.

Chee was my boss at Valley Crisis Center. Chee had wonderful leadership qualities. She was always patient, respectful, and kind. She knew how to make decisions and move us forward. I knew that she valued my work and cared about me as a person. She truly cared for the survivors we serve. She wanted all people to feel welcome at our office and our safe house. Even as the director, she would check on clients in the lobby to see if they needed water or something to eat. She worked to help us understand cultural differences and learn more about Hmong culture, even allowing us to attend Hmong New Year celebrations during our workday.  We will carry on her mission to support survivors and build a safe community. 

My heart is with the family at this difficult time.  I'm so sorry for your loss. All of us at Valley Crisis Center share in your grief, and we are here to support you. 

I am grateful to have known Chee through her work serving survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in Merced County.  She was a wonderful advocate, and a delightful person.  Her memory makes me smile, and we have been keeping all her loved ones in our thoughts.  May Rico - Haven, Modesto.
