Dan’s life will be celebrated with military honors and shared memories Saturday, January 26th, at 11:00 at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, located at 1490 B Street in Merced. A visitation will be Friday, the 25th, from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Dan was born in Turlock May 8, 1947, and passed away January 14, 2019, in Fresno after a brief illness. He attended Charles Wright and Hoover schools, graduating from Merced High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation and served in the Vietnam War. Dan was an aviation ordnance specialist and retired from the navy as a chief petty officer after serving 20+ years. He then entered the truck driving field, first as a driver and then as an instructor at truck driving schools in Stockton and Fresno. He returned to driving before his retirement.
Dan was unusual in that he was a truck driver who enjoyed day trips in the car with family and friends. He loved racing as a spectator and as a pitman. He was an avid fan of the San Diego Padres and Chargers. He chose to ignore the fact that the Chargers moved. He also enjoyed wood working and making latch hook rugs.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Edna Glusing; brother Jim; and nephew, Kelly Sadler. Dan is survived by his sons, Brian (Jessica) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and David (Sally) of Lodi, two grandchildren: Grant and Eliza, and his long-time love, Millie Deen. Also surviving Dan are his sisters: Marge Sadler, Kathy Morton (George), and Marlene Glusing, several nieces and nephews, and step-children: Melissa and Nathan Werth.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, or to the charity of choice.
