Doris loved life and was always ready to have a good time. She traveled regularly to Texas and Portland, OR to visit family and friends and she especially enjoyed going on cruises. Doris and her husband, Ken Tucker were active in both the local Elks and Eagles clubs. Doris was a charter member of the Merced Emblem Club and more recently Doris had been a member of the local Merced “Red Hat Society”. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, bowling and shopping. She had a beautiful backyard with lovingly tended flowers, where she entertained on a regular basis. Following her divorce from “Mac” McGarry, Doris owned and operated McGarry Motors and Aide Rent-a-Car for several years until she retired. Doris always had wonderful memories of working at Bell Telephone in Merced during the 1950’s and she continued to meet former phone company colleagues for lunch while she was still in good health. Doris had lived in Merced since 1952.
Doris was preceded in death by her youngest son, James Clinton McGarry, who died tragically in 1980; mother, Ruby who died in 2008; sister, Cristal who died in 2011; and ex-husband, Russell “Mac” McGarry who died in 1994.
Doris is survived by her husband, Kenneth M. Tucker; daughter, Marla McGarry-Lawrence (Gary Lawrence) of Portland, OR; sons, Timothy P. McGarry (Lowai) and Russell C. McGarry Jr. (Nellie) of Merced; grandchildren, TSgt. Rian A. Lawrence (USAF) of Cheyenne, WY and Gretchen R. Bradley (Dan) of Portland, OR; as well as by her two dachshunds, Tom & Jerry.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hinds Hospice for their compassionate care as Doris’s life drew near the end.
