Eudell was nicknamed “Pretty Boy Hoyt” after serving in the United States Army in Germany. In the early 60’s he worked for Nahas Produce and the early years of the Water Company when it was still Crocker Huffman Land and Water Company. He also worked at the Old Boise Cascade Company. His primary love was driving the big rigs through California and Oregon. Truck driver CB handle was “Scooter”. After he retired from driving, he worked as a court house security guard in Merced. He always enjoyed helping people and went out of his way to make the court house experience less scary. He was very active in the LDS Church and attained the office of High Priest. He was instrumental in the forming of the Hmong branch and was always available to help all the young missionaries. He was always involved in sports. Eudell played baseball and basketball in high school and was a member of the bowling team. He was a supporter of early women’s softball. He was a hard worker and provided for his large family. He was a warm and loving man, always ready to help out and listen to people with no judgement at all. You could depend on him.
Eudell is preceded in death by his father Dilworth Hoyt, mother Edna May Goulding, first wife Penny Farmer who he was married to for 40 years and shared 6 children together. As well as his wife Bonnie Hartman Rocha who passed away in March of 2019.
He is survived by his children Tammy Kalinowski of Rocklin, California, Jeffery Hoyt of St. George, Utah, Luci Dance of Palm Coast, Florida, Aaron Hoyt of Sacramento, California, Amy Bassett of Houston, Texas, Sami Thai of Merced, California and stepmother Elaine Hoyt. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and multiple brothers and sisters in Utah.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street, Merced, California 95341. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2692 McKee Road, Merced, California 95340. Interment will follow at Merced District Cemetery located at 1300 B Street, Merced, California 95341.
