Our beloved Ignacio “Nacho” Moreno departed for heaven on December 19, 2022 at the age of 82. He was born on December 5, 1940 in Van Nuys, CA to Joe and Virginia Moreno. He was the youngest of 10 siblings and at age 3, his family relocated to Planada, CA where he grew up and attended Planada Elementary and LeGrand High School. At a very young age, he met a girl named Adeline who he knew he was destined to marry someday. They began dating in high school, however Nacho went on to become a barber relocating to the Bay Area for some years. He eventually moved back and settled in Merced where he started a new career, and he and Adeline were married. In 1982, they welcomed their son Andrew into the world. Nacho devoted his life to providing for his family. He worked at Davis Canning Company in Atwater for nearly 30 years as a Warehouse Supervisor before retiring. However, he was never fond of retirement life, so he continued to work part-time to stay busy and active. Over the last several years, he volunteered his time at United Methodist Church of Merced as a valued member of the Food Pantry team, where he helped pack out food donations to serve thousands of families in the local community.
Nacho was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a passion for cooking and a reputation for being a grillmaster – bbq ribs were his specialty. He enjoyed gardening, going to the casinos, and loved music. He was always singing, whistling, and dancing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his young grandchildren who always kept him smiling and on his toes.
He is survived by his wife Adeline Moreno of 47 years, his son Andrew Moreno, daughter-in-law Kristina Moreno, grandsons Isaac and Aiden Moreno, sister Alice Ochoa, and a large extended community of family and friends. He will be greatly missed but will remain forever in our hearts through the many cherished memories we have of him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 20th at 11:00 AM at United Methodist Church of Merced, 899 Yosemite Pkwy, Merced, CA.
