

Jack C. Stavros was born on April 28, 1922 in Merced, CA. He graduated from McClatchy High School in Sacramento in 1940 where he excelled in football and pole vaulting. He served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp., and received the Distinguished Flying Cross during World War II. He also served during the Korean War, and reenlisted in 1956. He worked as a real estate appraiser for over 30 years, including time spent with Merced County, FHA, and later as an independent appraiser.
Jack loved playing golf, hunting, fishing, and his beloved 49ers. He was well known for his quick wit and outgoing personality. He belonged to the 20/30 Club, Elks, Eagles, Roaming Elks, and served on the board of the Merced County Historical Society. He was a vestry of the Episcopal Church, and served as president of the Merced County Old Timers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Chris Stavros and sister, Helen Perino.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Reding who he met and married in 1967; his two sons, Tig Bigler (Gail Bershears) and Chris Stavros (Nicola Feedam); a step-granddaughter, Paige Feedam-Gomez; his nephew, Mike Perino; great niece, Breanna Hardeggar (John) and two great great nieces, Aubreyann and Grace.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17th, 2014 at 10:00am at Stratford Evens Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B S., Merced. CA.
