Jou Yang

Jou Yang was born on July 5, 1970, in Xabluan, Laos, to Nhia Houa Yang and Song Lee. In 1975, at the young age of five, she and her family were forced to flee their homeland due to the turmoil of the Vietnam War. They sought refuge in Long Cheng, Thailand, where they lived for nearly a decade before being granted asylum in the United States.

In 1985, Jou and her family arrived in Merced, California, where she began a new chapter of her life. It was there that she met Za Xiong, the man who would become her lifelong partner. The two married in 1989 and together created a beautiful family of nine children—six sons and three daughters: Kou, Va, Touta, Toua, Na, Long, See Mark, O Mark, and Zoua Pang. Jou was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who dedicated her life to her family. Her greatest joy came from raising her children, nurturing them with love, patience, and strength. She was known for her gentle spirit, resilience, and unwavering faith through every hardship.

In 2020, her life changed when her beloved husband suffered a stroke and passed away. The loss weighed heavily on her heart, and in the following years, her health began to decline. In 2024, she was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease and Pneumonia, conditions that made breathing increasingly difficult. Despite her struggles, Jou remained grounded by love and comfort. She spent her final months under hospice care, with the support and constant presence of her children. On October 12, 2025, Jou peacefully took her last breath, surrounded by her loving family. Though her time on earth has come to an end, her legacy of love, perseverance, and faith will continue to live on through her children and all who were blessed to know her.
