Lana Gale Machado, age 77, formerly of Mariposa CA, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, after her five-year long battle with cancer. Lana graduated from El Capitan High School in Merced, CA in 1963 and went on to marry Charles (Chuck) Wood and had their two daughters, Kimberlee and Stephanie. Lana was a very active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and taught Sabbath school, and their family had a farm where they harvested almonds until Chuck passed away in May of 1975 from lung cancer at just 35 years of age. Two years later through fate involving a CB radio- Lana met, and married Joe Machado and they moved to Mariposa where they had their daughter Jody and opened Miner's Shack Video which Lana would own and operate for 33 years serving the small but tirelessly supportive community. Lana was incredibly talented and creative. She received her GIA Certificate and was offered to teach at the institute, but it would require travel- and she couldn't bear to leave her beloved town of Mariposa. Over the years Lana enjoyed many hobbies such as painting, ceramics, cake making, line dancing and knitting. If you came into her video store you would often see her behind the counter, chatting and laughing with customers and knitting her latest creation. Lana was a friend to all who knew her, and the memory of her kindness and generosity will continue to live on in the people whose lives she touched and the community she served. Heaven gained a most beautiful angel- and that loss will be felt by many. Lana is preceded in death by her father Herman Orland Brewer, and survived by her mother Leota Brewer, sister Linda Scoggins, daughters (aka 'The Jewels in Her Crown') Kimberlee Klomp, Stephanie Cross, Jody Machado, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at Stratford Evans Funeral Home in Merced on May 12th, 2023, at 11am.
