Manuel Lourenco Costa Jr. was born to Manuel Lourenco Costa and Beatrice Thomas Costa on August 3, 1931 and passed away peacefully on November 6, 2014 in Merced where he resided for the last 70 years. Manuel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and then became a local dairy farmer in which he later retired from after 50 years. He enjoyed Nascar and was a proud San Francisco 49er fan. In recent years, Manuel loved trying his luck at nearby casinos and meeting his friends at the mall for some “people watching”. Manuel wasn’t a man to smile often but when he did his face would light up. The family is at peace knowing Manuel was “ready to rest”.
Manuel is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Etta Jean (Ferranti) Costa, his children Eugene Costa, Natalie Costa, Daniel Costa (all of Merced) and Joseph Costa (of Citrus Heights), his sisters Mary Thomas and Lucy Tighe, his grandchildren Larissa Sherman, Talia Haynes, Alisha Costa, Travis Costa, Gabrielle Calderon and Kaitlyn Costa, and great-grandchildren Noah, Myla and Lucah Sherman.
A Vigil Service with Rosary will be held on Thursday November 13th 2014 at 6:00 p.m. Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street Merced CA, 95341. The Funeral Mass will be held November 14th 2014 10:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, 671 East Yosemite Avenue Merced CA, 95340.
