Margaret Jean Peterson

Margaret Peterson, 94, passed away peacefully June 7, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 21, 1929 in El Nido, CA. to Harold and Emma Dougherty. In 1951, she married the love of her life Norman Peterson. Norman and Margaret moved to Merced where they later went on to have 8 children. Margaret spent many years as active member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. There she held the position of many of the offices. She was also an avid card player, enjoying card games with the other members. Margaret loved baking for friends and family and spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother/great grandmother, and friend to so many.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Norman Peterson, her daughter Karen Peterson, and four siblings. She is survived by her children Linda Peterson, Janice Peterson (John), Sharon Marcos (Mike), Ron Peterson, Don Peterson (Gloria), Steven Peterson (Lisa), Tracy Peterson (Dave), 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday July 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA. Following the family service will be a celebration of life gathering at Janice and John’s house, 4860 Elliot Ave. Atwater, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in Margaret’s name to Hinds Hospice of Merced.
