Nyla was born to Emil and Viola Pudwill in Hague, ND on April 4, 1931. She passed peacefully, after a difficult illness, on September 10, 2015, surrounded by the family she loved. She grew up in Linton, ND, where she met her husband, P.J. Wolf. They were married in Camp Springs, MD in October 1952; they were just a month short of 64 years of marriage. Four children were born during several years of moving due to PJ’s military career. All four survive: Alan (Ronda) Wolf of Fresno CA, Jerry (Teresa) Wolf of Pensacola, Florida, Randy (Beverly) Wolf of Lompoc CA and Nyla Janine Henry of Merced CA. Also surviving are grandchildren A J Wolf of Navarre, Florida, Thomas Henry of Merced CA, Megan Julia Wolf of Lompoc CA, and step-grandson Justin Henry of Lake Tahoe NV, brothers Jim and Gary Pudwill and sister, Mary Price. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brothers Curtis Pudwill, Charles Pudwill and Richard Joeb.Nyla took almost total responsibility for raising of the family due to PJ’s frequent deployments overseas during the Cold War and Vietnamese Conflict. She was very active in the clubs of the wives of military officers at the various bases at which they lived. They eventually settled in Merced, where they spent the rest of her life. She totally enjoyed the military atmosphere in which they lived for so many years, and participated actively in military-related activities, including the Castle Air Museum and the Retired Officers Association. Her smile could light up a whole room; Nyla will be missed by many, but especially her close-knit family. We were privileged to spend much quality time with her during her final illnesses.
A memorial remembrance will be held at Bear Creek Community Church, 1717 E. Olive Ave, Merced at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2015. If desired, donations in her name may be made to Covenant Care Hospice of Turlock CA.
