Richard David Baxter, a man of spirited heart and wise soul, completed his earthly journey on May 18, 2025. Born on January 26, 1929, in the quaint town of Merced, California, Richard was a true cowboy at heart, whose life was deeply rooted in the rich soils of the Golden State. He passed away peacefully of natural causes in the comfort of his home in Le Grand, California, leaving behind a legacy of strength, wisdom, and a love for the cowboy way of life.
Richard's early years in Merced were filled with the simple pleasures of rural life, where he developed a deep connection with the land and the animals he so dearly cherished. His passion for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him, as he spent countless hours riding his beloved horse across the open plains, his figure a familiar sight against the backdrop of California's rolling hills.
As he grew older, Richard's reputation as a wise and handy man flourished. He could often be found tending to the needs of his ranch, a testament to his dedication and hard work. His hands, though weathered from years of labor, were always ready to help a neighbor or mend whatever was broken. Richard's skills were as vast as the land he loved, and his ability to solve problems with grace and ingenuity was admired by all.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Richard will remember him for his spirited nature and infectious laugh. He approached life with a sense of adventure, never shying away from a challenge and always ready to share a story or impart a piece of wisdom. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and his guidance was sought by many.
Richard's love for his ranch was paralleled only by his love for his family and friends. He was a pillar of the community, a friend to many, and a mentor to those lucky enough to learn from him. His tales of days spent in the saddle, the wind at his back and the sun setting on the horizon, will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
As we bid farewell to Richard David Baxter, we celebrate a life abundantly lived and richly experienced. His spirit, forever intertwined with the land he cherished, will continue to ride the trails of Le Grand, California, in the stories passed down through generations and the memories held dear by all who knew him. Richard's journey on this earth may have come to a gentle close, but the echoes of his laughter and the wisdom of his words will resonate for eternity.
A Graveside Service for Richard will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Plainsburg Cemetery, 8943 Gillette Avenue, Merced, California.
