Rosalie Irene Hernandez

Rosalie Irene Hernandez, born December 2, 1939 and a life-long resident of Merced, CA, died on May 20, 2023.

Rosalie was known to many as “Lea”. She always had a smile on her face and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. The people she cherished the most included her great-grandchildren, Emi, Mateo and Tristan as well as her “special needs” son, Jesse Jr.

Rosalie was a devoted homemaker and worked tirelessly raising her four children on their small ranch. She was very active as she helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She assisted with babysitting, school pick-ups and so much more. During the summer months she worked in various canneries and Montgomery Farms.

Rosalie is survived by her children, Sandra (Shelby) Medeiros of Atwater, Carol (Richard) Freitas of Los Banos and Jesse Hernandez Jr. of Merced. Grandchildren, Jennifer (Victor) Quiralte, Christopher Medeiros, James Freitas, Jordan Freitas and Justin Hernandez and three great-grandchildren. Brothers Michael (Delores) Cervantes, Frank (Leslie) Cervantes and Dennis (Nancy) Cervantes and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse C. Hernandez, son, Martin Hernandez, and parents, Michael and Emily Cervantes.

A Viewing will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Merced on May 30th at 9am. Rosary will begin at 9:30am and Mass at 10am. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Merced, CA. Reception immediately following.
