Ruth Samberg died in her 100th year of life leaving behind her devoted and beloved husband of 70 years, Michael Samberg. She was a proud graduate of Bank Street College and a teacher in early childhood education. She also held a degree in social work from Florida International University and a degree in education from New York University. Born of Russian immigrants in Waterbury, CT. her first language was Yiddish and she was throughout her life passionately committed to secular Judaism and progressive ideas.
Ruth will always be remembered for her gentleness and kindness, her perceptiveness about people, and her tolerance for all. She dearly loved her two children, Mark and Eslee Samberg and their spouses, Marcee Samberg and Eric R. Marcus; her grandchildren Josh and Nina Samberg (Raphael Latrache), Max and Pia Marcus and her great grandchild Dora Samberg.
A private memorial service will be held in Merced, California and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. Contributions in her name can be made to League of Women Voters of Merced County, Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), or any organization of your choice.
