Funeral services for Carl Hagen "Doc" Staton, Sr., 95, are set for 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Barham Funeral Home with Dr. Raymon Leake and David McCubbin Officiating. Burial will be in the Forrest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Staton died on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Anderson's hospital. He was born on Monday, April 12, 1915 to the late Andrew Jackson and Alma Pearl Staton. Mr. Staton retired from Sears after serving 42 years as manager of several departments. He was best known as the "shoe department" manager, served as president of the Sears Retiree Luncheon Club for a number of years until his health kept him from attending, a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Meridian where he was elected and served for 35 years as secretary and treasurer for a number of the Sunday school classes, a member of the First Baptist Monday night visiting committee where he enjoyed witnessing to others, and above all, he loved the Lord and is now with him without pain and suffering.
He is survived by one son, Hagan Staton and his wife Cheryl; one daughter, Mindy Williams and her husband Sam; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Williams all of Meridian.
Along with his parnets, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lela Frances Harbour Staton, several brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff on the 2nd floor east of Anderson's for the special care they have recently given him, but most of all, they would like to offer a special word of sincere appriciation to Dr. Douglas Phillips, one of the most caring doctors we know.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 5th one hour prior to service time.
Memorials may be made to the Aldersgate Retirement Home and the Oaks Nursing Home, both of which have given him unconditional love and care.
