James Ray "Jimmy" Joiner

Mr. Joiner, 67, of Collinsville passed away in Laurel on Saturday.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War as a door gunner with the 191st Assault Helicopter Company. During his military service he was awarded several service awards including the Air Medal with three oak clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle Qualification as well as the Purple Heart.

He is survived by daughter Shelia Dement (Ronnie) of Laurel; grandchild Blake Brownlee of Laurel; step-son Steve Pogue (Marsha) of Hernando, MS; step grandchildren Shelby and Nick Pogue; brothers Larry Joiner (Elizabeth) and Bennie Joiner (Marie) both of Meridian; sister Kay Herring (Perry) of Meridian and ex-wife Susan Jane Smith.

Mr. Joiner was preceded in death by his parents Lennie and Eula Joiner, son Scott Joiner, step son Mark Pogue and nine siblings.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
