

Margaret J. McGee 95 passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, April 5, 2011 at the Mother of Good Counsel Home in Saint Louis, Missouri, where she resided for the past year. Born Lucy Marguerite Jones in Chunky, MS on November 22, 1915, she was the youngest daughter of Charlie Elijah and Edna (Joiner) Jones. A loving mother, Margaret was very devoted to her family, her many friends, and to Chunky Baptist Church. She loved the many aspects of her involvement with “Miriam” Sunday School Class, WMU, homebound, work with the children in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and her beloved choir. She also played the piano for her trio and men’s quartet. She was a bookkeeper at Hulett Furniture Co. in Meridian prior to her retirement in 1980.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Jackson Groves, father of her daughters, and Joseph Leon McGee. Her parents Charlie Elijah and Edna (Joiner) Jones, sister Mattie Louise Gibbon and brother, James Edward Jones also predeceased her. She is survived by daughters Lynette (Paul) Raidt of Saint Louis, and Barbara Ann Groves of Naples, Florida, stepson Bennie (Joyce) Groves of Jackson, grandson Michael Brand (Amy) and great-grandchildren Addison, Aldon and Deacon, granddaughter Julie (Castle) Bloom (Alex) and great-granddaughters, Kate and Caroline. Other survivors include nieces Anne Texeira of Atlanta, Estell Willis of Jackson, Ruth (Bill) Matlock of Little Rock, MS, Bonnie Gibbon of Decatur, and one nephew, Douglas (Lorraine) Gibbon of Decatur, and their families of 3 generations.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon, April 9, 2011 at 3 o’clock p.m. at Chunky Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Stephens Funeral Home of Meridian is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Chunky Baptist Church, P. O. Box 98, Chunky, MS 39323.
