Just before sunrise on August 16, 2024, Sandra Carolyn Davies ascended peacefully into the heavens and into the waiting arms of her son, Lyle. Surrounded by peace and love, and under the watchful eye of her daughter, Vicky, Sandra felt safe to complete her life’s journey. Sandra chose to keep her illness very private; only those closest to her knew of her short and courageous battle with cancer. Her family stood by her side, supporting her every step of the way. A rare, elegant, and ferocious warrior, she battled with everything she had to overcome this disease. Right to the end, Sandra was determined to live in the present, continuing to love her family and friends unconditionally.
Born in Vancouver, BC, on May 6, 1942, to Cecil and Joan Davies, she was a cherished gift to her family. As a child, Sandra was brave, curious, and fun-loving. She attended Como Lake High School from ’56 to ’58 and enjoyed staying connected with old friends through class reunions.
In 1957, Sandra caught the eye of the oh-so-handsome Gary Davies. They exchanged vows in 1960 and moved to Victoria, B.C., where they soon welcomed their first child, Lyle. A few years later, they immigrated to Arizona, USA, and soon after, Lyle had a perfect little sister, Vicky. Their family was now complete. The Davies returned to Canada in the ’70s, raising their family in Kamloops, B.C. Sandra and Gary’s journey took them to places as far north as Whitehorse and as far south as Sedona, always creating new memories along the way.
In their retirement years, Sandra and Gary returned to the lower mainland. From there, they explored the ocean on their boat, the “KC Rose,” and chased the sun in their RV, creating many cherished memories. Langley was where they called home, a place filled with warmth, laughter, and family. Recently, Merritt became their new gathering place, continuing the legacy of love and exploration they shared.
Sandra was never one to shy away from hard work. From bookkeeping for the family trucking business to driving the big rigs herself, she tackled everything with determination. She also excelled in floral design, working at specialty markets, and helping at the local garden centre. A skilled cook, Sandra was always trying new recipes and was known for making the best authentic Mexican food this side of the border. Her creativity extended into crafting, beading, and sewing, and her beautiful handwriting was a reflection of her attention to detail. Above all else, Sandra was a devoted and loving mother to her children, Lyle and Vicky.
Sandra is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Gary Davies; her daughter, Vicky Tarcon; and Vicky’s partner Crystal Laidlaw. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Randy Davies, in 1970, and her son, Lyle Davies, in 2004.
She will be deeply missed by family near and far, and by the many dear friends she considered extended family. The “Ladies Birthday Lunch Bunch” will surely miss her presence at their long-standing gatherings, though we know a place will always be set in her honor.
Sandra shared a special bond with her cousin Patsy, who was her best friend and partner in crime throughout their childhood & teenage years. Though distance kept them apart as they raised their families, they stayed connected over the years, sharing memories and laughter. In Sandra’s final days, Patsy was among the few who came to see her, bringing the comfort of shared history and lifelong friendship. Witnessing their reunion was a reminder of the enduring nature of their bond, filling the room—and our hearts—with warmth.
Sandra was beautiful, charismatic, compassionate, generous, and witty. Her contagious smile and sparkling blue eyes brightened every room she entered, and her warmth and kindness were felt by everyone she encountered. She formed lifelong connections, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her. To know Sandra was to love her.
As a family, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported and loved us through this difficult time. Your kindness and care have made Sandra’s passing, while deeply sad, still filled with love, beauty, and family—just as she would have wanted.
Sandra’s life was a reminder of what truly matters: Believe in yourself, never give up, and love those around you with all your heart. Her message to us all: Love deeply, forgive quickly, and remember, “Less stress is best.”
Thank you, Mom, for your love, your unwavering support, and for being the best example of kindness and strength. I carry you with me always. Until we meet again, your love will guide us.
This isn’t “goodbye,” but “I’ll see you later.”
