On September 20, 2014, Elaine Alexander Leidolf died at the age of 86. A long-time resident of Merritt Island, Florida, Elaine passed surrounded by her family at the Wuesthoff Hospice House in Rockledge, Florida.
Elaine (who was known as Sissy by much of her family) was the only daughter of Emerson and Jessie (Russell) Alexander. She was born on February 3, 1928, in Borden, Indiana. She attended school in Borden, Indiana, where she, despite her tiny stature, proudly played basketball as one of the “Borden Berries.” A devout Catholic, Elaine attended church at Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Merritt Island, Florida.
On June 14, 1951, Elaine married David B. Leidolf (the son of Clarence and Blanche (Christian) Leidolf) at Saint Mary’s of the Knobs Catholic Church in Floyd Knobs, Indiana. Until moving to Florida in 1963, Elaine and David lived on Scottsville Road in Floyd Knobs. Having been previously married to Jackie T. Wagoner (a union which bore three children—Rita Faye, Jackie Lee and Sherry Renee Wagoner), Elaine and David began their life as a family of five. Thereafter, they were blessed with three more children, David Lee, Dee Anna and Gina Marie Leidolf.
She is survived by her husband, David B. Leidolf, her daughters Sherry Wagoner, Dee Leidolf and Gina Adrian, and her son, David L. Leidolf. In addition she leaves behind her grandsons Brian Pate, Mark Pate, Troy Wagoner, Christopher Cilley, Anthony Cilley, David W. Leidolf, and her granddaughters, Lori Campbell, Stacey Stratten, Melissa Stacks, Kelly Knauer, and Kevyn Leidolf. In addition, Elaine leaves behind numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers (Norval [Bub], Johnny, Elmo, Wallace, and Earl), along with her daughter, Rita Wagoner, and son, Jackie Lee Wagoner, and granddaughter, Dawnetta Madden.
A woman of great faith, Elaine would offer one piece of advice for those mourning her death. “Remember WHO is in charge.”
