Elvira was born in Barcelona, Spain, and spent her childhood in Vineroz, a seaside town on the Mediterranean.
She attended Covent School where she learned to sew. She lived in Avignon, France, during the war years
where she met and married an American soldier, Philip Friedman. One of her proudest accomplishments was
raising her children as a widow while working. Elvira enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking and
loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Gary Friedman, daughter Bonnie Halenkamp, her grandchildren Jonathan Macomber,
Mark Thompson, Karen Thompson Hugo, Scott Thompson and Cheryl Thompson Blanc and great-grandchildren Ryan and Sarah,
Jacob, Morgan, Madison and Evan, Stella and Benjamin. She is preceded in death by her husband Philip Friedman and daughter
Elaine Thompson.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
