

Born on August 7, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Detroit, MI, he grew up playing sports and went on to attend the University of Idaho on an ROTC scholarship. After a tour in the Navy serving on destroyers and battleships, he turned to a career in law enforcement with the FBI and then with the State of Florida as an investigator with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Division of Insurance Fraud.
George led the church youth group, along with his wife Gloria while his sons were in high school. Including his time in the Navy, he lived in Florida for over 50 years, in Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and finally moved to Merritt Island in 2006. He loved fishing, watching football, especially the Detroit Lions, and wood turning and carving.
He is predeceased by his parents, George and Elizabeth Syring, and his son, Travis Syring. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Syring; his two sons, Chip and Scott Syring; his identical twin brother, Bob; and his younger brother, Les Syring.
A celebration of life and service will be held on February 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, Florida 32953. A reception at Heron Village Pavilion will follow the service.
