Marjorie N. Putnam entered into her heavenly rest on Saturday December 21, 2013.
Marjorie was born in Beech Creek, Kentucky on September 11, 1923. She started teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Kentucky in the 1950’s. Marjorie was the first woman to pray out loud in church, to lead a mixed Sunday School class and also to lead a men’s Sunday School class while at the Second Baptist Church in Greenville, Kentucky. Marjorie received her Masters Degree at 56 years of age. She retired as a teacher in the late 1980’s but continued to volunteer in the Elementary school.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ulie E. Hinton and Mabel G. McKenney Hinton; husband Chester Putnam; eldest granddaughter Lynne Ann Cooper; three brothers and sisters-in-law Thurman E. Hinton (Charlotte), H.L. Hinton (Sue), Paul J. Hinton (Billye).
She is survived by her daughter Claudia A. Hannah (Bob); grandson James Scott Cooper(Jennifer); great grandson Jacob Zane Cooper; granddaughter Shannon Lee Edwards Points(Rob); great grandson Brandon Scott Edwards and granddaughter Sawyer Lynne Edwards; son Joseph Chester Putnam(Pat); granddaughter Kristy Jo Putnam; grandson Matt Putnam; granddaughter Cassandra Jade Putnam; son David Alan Putnam; grandson Shaun Putnam; great grandsons Grant Putnam and Hayden Putnam; brother David C. Hinton (Marie); sister-in-law Rita Hinton and many loving nieces , nephews and their families.
A Memorial Service will be held 2PM Sunday December 29, 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church, Sanford, FL.
There will also be a Memorial Service held in Indiana at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
