Wayne was the only child of Kenneth and Wanda (Leszczynski) Jones. He was born in Portland, Maine and raised in Florida. His father Kenneth was from Texas. His mother Wanda was from Worcester, Massachusetts.
He entered into the United States Navy starting in 1962. He successfully completed AMFU “A” School, MRPO, and ABH. He served overseas for two years and ten months. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Airman Jones was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1962. On discharge, he elected to further serve his country by entering into the Navy Reserve.
Wayne was a graduate of Florida Atlantic University. On entering civilian life, he worked as an aerospace technician at Cape Canaveral until retirement.
Wayne was a long-time resident of Merritt Island. In his latter years he resided at the Lenox. He found a “family” there in the staff and other residents. Being a creature of habit, he participated in bible study and enjoyed his daily trips to the Cocoa Library and Publix. With his warm and open personality, he made friends easily.
Wayne loved football and key lime pie. Rumor has it he was a regular at the Florida Key Lime Pie factory in Cocoa Beach.
While Wayne had no siblings, he was one of 20 first cousins on his mother’s side. He is survived by thirteen cousins, including Deborah Riordan and her husband Theodore of Quincy, MA, and Brenda LaRiviere and her husband Francis of Oxford, MA. He also leaves his close friends, Patricia King and her family of Merritt Island. Patti was a great comfort to Wayne as he made his final journey home.
