

Charles Wesley Stiles Jr. (Wes) age 77, passed away on August 11th, 2017 in Chandler, Arizona. He was born on June 19th, 1940 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Hazel and Charles Wesley Stiles Sr. Wes grew up in Blackwell Oklahoma where he was an active member of the community with Boy Scouts and Vice President of his High School senior class. He was also a Hi-Y delegate (High School YMCA program that stresses leadership & community service) and attended Boy's State (a selective American Legion leadership & citizenship program).
Wes attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in May of 1962. He married LaMoyne Carriger in 1959.They had their first child, Angela, in 1960 and their second, Melinda, in 1962. While at OSU, he not only excelled in academics, but was the president of the Engineering Club and a member of Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society (a prestigious IEEE international electrical & computer engineering organization) while also supporting his young family.
He moved his family to Virginia in 1962 after graduation where he started his career as an Advanced Engineer Designer at General Electric. He relocated his family to Arizona in 1966 and started a 32-year career with Motorola in Scottsdale, Arizona where he advanced to become a Senior Manager. He worked on many projects and received patents for his designs used in the earliest stages of the U.S. satellite program, the communication module for the first-ever lunar landing and the communication system for Skylab, the U.S. first-ever space station. He was a pioneer and recognized as one of the best in an arena of incredible trail blazers in the earliest stages of space flight and communications/multi-spectral/computer engineering technologies and many of his advancements are still in use today. He retired in 1998 after a long and successful career and landed in Chandler, Arizona to be closer to his children and extended family.
Wes was an active member of his church and was involved with many groups. He belonged to the hiking club and the Scout club where he mentored and shape young minds as he explored the state of Arizona. Brilliant, passionate and an avid advocate for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Wes was a leader and shining example that motivated many to become more than they would have otherwise. He was also an avid fisherman and golfer and also enjoyed boating, skiing, hunting, motorcycle riding and photography. Wes is survived by his life companion, LaMoyne, two daughters, Angela (Angie) Sitek and Melinda (Mindy) Ramacieri, a sister, Phoebe Wheeler and brother, Bill Stiles. He has seven grandchildren; Amber Sitek, Jason Duran, Tanya Duran, Leah Williams, Michelle Lester, Johnny Sitek and Brandon Duran. He also has 14 great grandchildren with baby girl on the way.
Services will be held Saturday, August 19th and 1:00pm at Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 4140 N Miller Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85251
