Clyde Henry Sandoz, 89, passed away on December 30, 2011 due to complications of a stroke. “Henry”, as he was commonly known, grew up in Tempe, Arizona and spent most of his youth in and around what is now Arizona State University. Henry joined the United States Navy in 1942 as a radio operator in WWII. After the war he began working as a brick mason’s apprentice for Andy Womack, legendary cowboy and contractor in Phoenix. After his apprenticeship, Henry worked for Del Web Construction and eventually began his own company, known as Clyde Sandoz Masonry, along with his brother and brother-in-law. Clyde Sandoz Masonry is credited with building homes in Sun City and Sun City West, as well as many homes in Tucson.
While his family started to grow, Henry felt the need to help provide for community outside of building homes. Some of his works include several community centers for The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, churches throughout the greater Phoenix area and summer camps in Prescott and Payson.
Henry was a hard working man who dearly loved his family and knew the importance of a good education. He has always said that his greatest achievement was putting his wife and three daughters through college at Arizona State University. All three daughters followed their mother into teaching.
Henry is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Peggy, and three daughters, Marsha Harrison and husband Bob, Cathy Sandoz, and Helen “Annie” Sandoz. At the time of his passing, Henry had seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one, named Noah Henry, due any day. He also leaves two sisters and a brother.
