Delfina Limones was born Christmas Eve of year 1923 in Los Angeles California. She was known by many as Della but to her 9 sisters and 3 brothers she was known as Delfi. As a baby she was given to my Great Grandmother Fernanda to be raised and cared for. She was educated in East Los Angeles and graduated from the well made known movie, “Stand by Me” Garfield High School. She was given the gift of a beautiful voice where she was contracted by a local radio station to sing and play her guitar or accompanied by a pianist. During her high school years,she was often invited to sing among her friends. Even later in years where she worked in a Mexican Food Company, The workers would encourage her to sing for them. Of course Mexican ballads and other songs.
She worked 29 years at Xlent Mexican food co. which later became Nalleys. Before modern technology came in she was considered one of the fastest tamale and tortilla counters in the plant This small 4'11” woman fell in love with a tall 5' 11” good looking man who loved to dance. After a brief courtship they married October 30, 1946. In 1948 their first child, Marcella was born. In 1950 the second child, boy Rene Jose entered into the world.
About 2004 Delfina and Jose moved to Arizona to be cared for by her daughter. On the morning of September 21, 2016 Delfina died while having a TAVR heart surgery. She is to join her husband Jose Flores who died in June,2015. They will both be in their final resting place at Maricopa Gardens Memorial Park. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Mariposa Gardens Funeral Home, 400 S. Power Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206. Family will receive friends at 9:45 AM.
