

Donald Richard Anweiler 96 residing in Mesa, Arizona with his wife Norma Jean Anweiler, passed away June 16, 2025. He was born in Akron Ohio June 6, 1929, to Jacob and Dorthy (Cutlip) Anweiler. Preceded in death by his parents Jacob Anweiler, Dorthy (Cutlip) Dobbins Anweiler, his Stepmother Myrtle (Yaussy) Anweiler, Brother Leroy Dornbusch (Gertie Dornbusch) and Sister Lois Norma Anweiler, and wife Betty L. Anweiler.
Donald graduated from Springfield High School in Akron, Ohio in 1948, where he had lasting memories and lifelong friendships. He chose a wonderful, wife, mother, companion, and friend not only once but twice. He was married to Betty Lou Anweiler (McCormick) in 1951 until her death in 2010, he then married Norma Jean Anweiler (Nicholas) in 2011. He made us family.
Donald served in the Navel Reserves from June 23, 1947 to September 19, 1948 and the US Air Force from September 22, 1948 to December 16, 1953 with the Air Force Police and retired as a Sergeant. Donald formed lifelong relationships and memories with the men he served with in peace and in wartime. When he discharged from the Air Force, he joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol and served until he retired in 1983 as a Staff Lieutenant. The Ohio Highway Patrol was family to all of us who shared this experience.
Donald was a member of the Ohio State Hwy Patrol Retirees Assoc., VFW Post 1760 in Mesa, Arizona. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mesa, Arizona. He had a passion for Jesus, his family and Habitat for Humanity. He had a heart for charities, he loved traveling, reading and playing games, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on TV, he also loved having cookouts and was master of the grill.
Donald is survived by his wife Norma Anweiler, his Sister Ronna Smoke (Elwin Lawler) and their children Jason Runion, Thomas Martel (Bobbie) and Connie Martel. His children; David W. Anweiler (Eric Willborn), Rebecca Anweiler-Newbanks (Mark Newbanks), Scott Anweiler (Debbie Anweiler) Grandchildren: Matthew Beasley, Kristi (Anweiler) Hendricks (Liam Hendricks), Cristy Bowen, Justin Bowen (Ashley Bowen) Great Grandchildren: Cameron Bowen (Justin Guttery), Mason Bowen, Lane Bowen, and Alexis Bowen. His Nieces and Nephews: Dennis Dornbusch (Cheryl Dornbusch), Christopher Dornbusch, Karen Sanner, Becky Brown, Jamie Combs, Stephen Dornbusch (Sandra Dornbusch) Ann Clark.
Donald didn’t know what he was getting into marrying Norma, she has 4 married children Phyllis Pasekoff, Bruce Nicholas, Susan Loe and Rebecca Nelson and 10 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren he loved them all, and they loved him. He will truly be missed.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of Mesa; 161 N Mesa Dr. Mesa, Arizona 85201. A visitation will be held from 9:00am - 10:00am with a service being held at 10:00am. Following the services Donald will have a committal service and military honors at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park; 6747 E. Broadway Rd. Mesa, Arizona 85206.
