Duane H.Judd, born January 29, 1929, in Kanab Utah, passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2023 in San Tan Valley, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tezza Brimhall Judd, the mother of his eleven children. He is survived by his wife Dioscilla (Tata), who has been a blessing to Duane and his family.
Duane grew up in the small town of Fredonia, Arizona. He spent his childhood roaming the red hills with his sling shot. As he grew older he loved to hunt, fish, ride horses, and help his uncles with farming and ranching. The more time spent outdoors the better. As a teenager he helped survey the Kaibab Forest for roads and trails, which still criss-cross the It today.
After graduating from Fredonia High School in 1947, he attended BAC in Cedar City Utah, (now SUU), Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Texas A and M. He received double Master’s degrees and the equivalent of a doctorate.
While Duane loved outdoor life, he also loved learning. He was an outstanding educator with a great gift for teaching and motivating others to work toward their potential. He considered himself to be a cowboy who loved Shakespeare and education. He continued learning long after he retired from the educational system at age 82. When he lost his eyesight, he learned by listening to books online. His love for knowledge was constant. His favorite subject was the gospel of Jesus Christ. From a very young age he had a desire and a thirst for truth. He found this in the scriptures and was always seeking greater knowledge and understanding.
Duane's greatest work and passion was that of being a father. He worked tirelessly to provide not just physically, but for every aspect of his children's well being. He dearly loved each of them and did everything within his power to care for them. His eleven children honor and love him: Karen (David) Mertlich, Charlyn(LoRal) Linton, LaDawn (Jerry) Goodman, Bret (Raenada) Judd, Jeffrey Tab (Melissa) Judd, Kristin Maria Judd, Trecia (Lewis) Freeman, Melissa Meri Judd, Matthew (Polly) Judd, Jilan (Darin) Hearn, and Jason (Tina) Judd.
Duane is the proud grandfather of 45 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter, with more coming soon!
