Edwin George Anderson, age 82, of Gilbert, Arizona is now safe in God’s refuge, having passed away in his home on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Ed was born in Norwalk, Wisconsin to Edwin Henry & Ida Marie (Kirgiss) Anderson on January 13, 1942. Growing up on a dairy farm near Norwalk, WI, with three brothers, he graduated from Norwalk High School and attended Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana, studying music and obtaining a degree in accounting. He grew up as a part of the church and was a follower of Jesus Christ his whole life. Ed married Carol Ann Mitten in 1966. They had two children and served as missionaries in San Jose, Costa Rica and Bogota, Colombia, and briefly pastored in Yuma, Arizona. Missions work continued to be a passion the rest of Ed’s life and he took opportunities for involvement as often as he could.
During the forty years Ed lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he first worked as an accountant at Nazarene Bible College for a few years and eventually operated his own accounting & tax business. Ed & Carol divorced in 1997. Ed married Patricia Jean Bredberg in 1999. They were active members of First Presbyterian Church and experienced the loss of their house in the Waldo Canyon fire of 2012. After her death in 2018, and when his health called for closer care, he moved to Gilbert, AZ to be near his daughter and her family. Ed wrote these words on a piece of paper which he kept in his wallet:
I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. (Psalm 73:23-24 NIV)
Ed is survived by two brothers, Lloyd and Jerry; his children, Michael and Melanie (Bristol); grandchildren, Christy (Scott), Coleman, Caleb, Josiah (Bristol), Hannah (Bristol), and Sarah (Bristol) and great-grandchildren, Samuel (Scott) and Dominic (Scott).
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 1:00PM at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 4150 E Acoma Dr., Phoenix, AZ. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream will be made available at youtube.com/@CalvinOPC.
