reunited with his oldest daughter Yesenia on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 8:14PM.
Ernest was born on September 6th, 1945 in Holbrook, AZ. He spent his early years in Winslow,
AZ followed by his teen years in Tempe, AZ where he attended Tempe High School. Ernest
joined the National Guard in 1963 where he met Adriana Martinez at an Army base in El Paso,
TX. Ernest joined the Navy in 1965 and later married Adriana on February 26th, 1967. Soon
after the wedding, Ernest was deployed to Vietnam where he served through the remainder of
that year.
Following his military service Ernest and Adriana moved from El Paso, TX to Tempe, AZ. Ernie
initially worked at a steel mill, and later a trailer fabrication shop. They moved back to El Paso
in 1970 where Ernie began his work as an upholsterer. After the three girls where born, the
Tafoya’s moved back to Tempe, AZ in 1978. Ernest continued to work as an upholsterer until
his retirement in the year 2000.
Outside of work Ernest spent his most treasured time with his wife, three girls, and
grandchildren. Ernest attended the grandchildren’s school and sporting events, drove them
around town, and did what he could to make life for them fun, sometimes silly, but always
meaningful. He was dedicated to the church where he helped build three church buildings,
served on the board of directors, and led the Royal Rangers boys program where he mentored
the spiritual, social, and practical life of boys ages 6-18.
Ernest is preceded in death by his daughter Yesenia and survived by his wife Adriana Tafoya,
