Frederick Walter Oldenburg, a longtime resident of Mesa, Arizona, passed away at the age of 81 by the side of his loving wife Eleana on December 14, 2022. Born in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred C. and Lilian G. Oldenburg, and his brother Edward (Ned) Oldenburg.
Fred graduated from the Newark College of Engineering and his skill and love for the profession showed in all aspects of his life. His distinguished career spanned more than 5 decades, ending with his favorite job at Agate Construction, where he managed projects throughout the Southwest. At home there was nothing he couldn’t fix, and family and friends often turned to him for help with projects and repairs of all kinds.
Fred was an animal lover who once chose a job in Arizona over Hawaii because he couldn’t bear to quarantine his dog. He passed his love of animals on to his children, and showed it with his numerous rescue dogs. He looked forward to reuniting with his beloved Princess, Tinkerbell, and Mango.
He enjoyed walks around the lake, spending time with family, auto shows and swap meets, and summer months in Christopher Creek with a tight-knit group of friends and neighbors.
Fred loved to laugh. He had an infectious smile, a dry but endearing sense of humor, and a skill for telling bad jokes at the perfect time.
Fred is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eleana, his brother Dennis Oldenburg, his sisters Ellen Bach (Matt) and Tina Gibson, sons Frederick (Michele), Mark (Amy), Eric (Kris), and daughter Liliana (Joe), his grandchildren Alec, Matthew, Jacob, Andrew, Emma, Zoe and Kyle (Brittany), and other nieces, a nephew, cousins, and extended family.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.LakeshoreMort.com for the Oldenburg family.
