Jerry was born in Millersburg, Missouri, and spent the majority of his life on the outskirts of Chicago, Illinois. He later retired to the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, where he embraced a quieter, simpler way of life before eventually settling in Sun Lakes, Arizona.
Jerry was a proud Army veteran and a skilled Sheet Metal Worker. He worked for Federal Signal & Sign in Blue Island, Illinois, and went on to finish his career as a Business Manager and President of Local Union 115 Sheet Metal Workers. His career reflected his leadership, dedication, and strong work ethic.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Jerry shared an incredible 70 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mickey Baumgartner—a true testament to their enduring love and commitment. He is also survived by his children, William Baumgartner (Terri) and Shari Keith (Scott); his cherished grandchildren, Jordan Keith, Linnea Smyrnos, Kristi Keith, Lauren Baumgartner, and Morgan Keith; and his adored great-grandchildren, Adelyn Smyrnos and Caleb Smyrnos.
In retirement, Jerry found his peace at the Lake of the Ozarks, where he could often be found fishing off the dock, feeding the ducks, and enjoying the quiet beauty of the water.
Jerry had a gift for connecting with others and built cherished friendships across the country—from Missouri to Illinois to Arizona. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone, and was often found happily caught up in conversation, leaving a lasting impression on all who met him.
He was known for his storytelling, his playful sense of humor, and the way he was always humming a tune. Jerry had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures: a good home-cooked meal, time spent with family, and, of course, dessert—something he never turned down.
Jerry also had a lifelong love for cars and took great pride in fixing them up. He was a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on.
Jerry’s legacy lives on in the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
