September 23, 1942 – November 20, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Grover "Butch" Wilson Edgell on November 20, 2024, at the age of 82.
Butch was born in Ohio on September 23, 1942, to Wilson and Evelyn Edgell. His family relocated to Goodyear, Arizona, shortly after he finished middle school. He attended Agua Fria High School where he would win Most Fashionable man on campus. Butch learned how to drive at the age of 12 and developed a life-long passion for cars. He spoke often of a beloved corvette. Butch was an avid golfer in his youth, considered a scratch golfer by his peers. Known for his sharp wit and wry sense of humor, Butch made countless friends over the years, maintaining close ties with many of them throughout his life.
Butch’s career began in the West Valley, where he worked at Goodyear and met his life partner, Donna. He later transitioned into the semiconductor industry, working primarily for Motorola, where he thrived and traveled around the world for the company. He was an extraordinary RF Semiconductor engineer. In 1973 he was recruited by Fairchild Semiconductor; he lived briefly in Petaluma, California. His recruitment was well worth it for Fairchild. He brought RF technology and his highest standards to Fairchild. He continued to create more lifelong friendships in Petaluma. Butch was a perfectionist—meticulous in how he maintained his home, his garage, and his cars. His eventual role overseeing the clean rooms at Motorola suited his attention to detail and order.
Butch and Donna settled in Mesa, Arizona, where they built a life filled with cherished friendships and memories. He also found great joy in their cabin in Forest Lakes, Arizona. He would spend countless hours on home improvement projects, sharing the cooler weather with friends and family. His grandchildren, Riley, Emily, Mathew and Benjamin, have many fond memories of the time they spent at the cabin, enjoying bonfires, cook-outs, quad riding and plenty of laughter.
Butch was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, daughter Denise, and brother Joe. He is survived by his daughter, Pam (Russ) Korcuska; his grandchildren, and his sister, Phyllis (Plummer), brother-in law Jim (Cindy) Echols and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.
Butch’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion to family and friends will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. A celebration of life will be held on December 28th in Mesa, Arizona.
