

Born in Dugger, Indiana on Armistice Day, November 11, 1918, he was the youngest and smallest of four brothers. Supposedly he spent his first days of life sleeping in a shoe box. During the Great Depression, he went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps driving a logging truck in Montana. After returning home to Indiana, he joined the Army Air Corp and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado.This is when he met the love of his life, Doris (Mickey) Grinstead. Soon after they were married, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and he was transferred to the Army Infantry and shipped off to Germany.
Harold joined Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph when he mustered out of the army. He loved Colorado so he and Mickey decided to stay there and raise a family. He remained with the phone company working at various positions in Lafayette, Boulder, Ordway, Pueblo, Colorado Springs and finally back to Denver, where he and Mickey retired in 1981. They moved to Mesa, Arizona to live out their lives.
Known by a few nicknames, Bops, Grandpa, Uncle Bent, he was a kind, funny and generous man who enjoyed fishing and golf, but most importantly he enjoyed his family and friends.
Proceeded in death by his three brothers, Hanse, Curly and Russ and his wife Mickey, his survivors include two sons, Don (Houston, TX): Milton (San Tan Valley, AZ); five grandchildren, Aaron Fender, Sara Bush (Fender), Kristin Fender-Stotler, Logan Fender and Hillary Fender; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will be missed by all he people whose lives he touched.
