Truly a man among men, larger than life…Hugo, 83, passed away unexpectedly, but at peace, surrounded by loving family on Thursday January 30. Hugo was born on Feb. 26, 1930 to Eva Bellora and John Pulzato in Garfield, New Jersey. He served in the Army and defended the country he loved in the Korean War. Hugo married his loving wife Helen Donetz Vronka in 1957; they had four children Priscilla, Doreen, Rhonda and John. Hugo was a self made man. He was the owner and operator of Hugo Pulzato Ceramic Tile, running the business from their home in Clifton, New Jersey. It provided a good life for many and memories to last a lifetime. His family spent fun-filled summers at Chadwick Beach on the Jersey Shore. Memories of the summer home and growing up in Clifton will be forever cherished. The Pulzato’s moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1977 and many successful ventures followed. Hugo, along with his friend Jerome Gerber, founded Valley Ceramic Tile in 1978. They ran the business until their retirement in 1995. Hugo, alongside his son John, got into the Sports Bar business on a bet and never looked back. Spook Hill Sports Lounge, Benchwarmers and Yogi’s Grill provided 20 years of fun, friends and good times. Hugo was a dedicated family man; NOTHING came before his family and his love for Italian food. His humor, his blunt opinion and love for life mattered the most to his kids and grandkids. His laugh, pinch of an earlobe and daily phone calls will be missed immensely. His wife Helen preceded Hugo in death. He is survived by the children he adored: Priscilla (Al), Doreen (Jim), Rhonda (Tony), and John (Laurie), his brother Emil, his grandchildren: Michael, Donna, Kim, Andi, Cindy, Ashley and Tiffany, great-granddaughters: Bonnie and Audrey and Hugo’s angel on earth, Mary. Funeral services will be Saturday February 8 at 10:30 am at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd., Mesa, AZ. Family will receive friends beginning 9:30 am. 480-830-4422 In memory of Hugo the family asks for his favorite pastime…gather around the table with family and friends for stimulating conversation and a delicious meal.
