Isabel B. Garcia

Isabel B. Garcia, also known as Isabel G. Martinez, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at home with her family by her side. Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, Encarnacion “Chon” and Trinidad “Trini” Garcia; as well as her brother, Ernesto Garcia. Isabel is survived by her daughters, Monique (Tito) Bonfiglio and Monika Padia; her grandsons, Rey Martinez, Adrian Bonfiglio, and Keaton Thedford; her siblings, Gloria Rivas, Sylvia Martinez and Joe Garcia; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her dearly. Isabel graduated from Mesa High School in 1962. Isabel continued her education at Arizona State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in education and then a master’s degree in education as well. Isabel taught in the Philippines for a short period of time but for the majority of her career she taught at Phoenix Elementary School District #1 where she retired in 1999. Isabel was a very active woman. Isabel enjoyed traveling. Some of her favorite trips were trips to Europe and Hawaii. Isabel played softball as a young girl. She continued to play until her health made it physically impossible for her. Isabel also coached softball. She even had her own softball team (Bill’s Market). Isabel also supported her daughters in their education and extracurricular activities. Isabel was their number one fan! Memories of her caring and loving spirit will live on forever in our hearts!
