Jack was born in Covington, Indiana and lived there until he entered the United States Air Force in 1951. He served 20 years in the military as a jet engine technician and was a Korea and Vietnam veteran. While in the military he traveled the world, having been stationed in Japan, Vietnam, Goose Bay Labrador, and many bases around the United States. After leaving the military he attended Utah Technical College at Provo, receiving Associates Degrees in Auto Mechanics, Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics, and Auto Body Repair. He went on to become NIASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) certified as a Master Automobile/Truck/Body/Paint Technician. At the time, he was only 1 of 375 persons (out of 350,000 who had taken the ASE tests) to be designated as a World-Class Technician and to be honored with his name inscribed in a Role of Honor book on display at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Midland, Michigan. He loved anything to do with automobiles and spent as much time as possible in his garage tinkering with his many project cars.
He also continued his love of travel and visited 49 of the 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Guam, Saipan, and the Philippines. The only thing he loved more than working on a car or traveling at the drop of a hat was his family. He raised 3 beautiful girls and would always put them first. In 2010 he was diagnosed with vascular dementia, which robbed him of the memory of all of the above. But those of us who knew and loved him will never forget!
Jack was predeceased by his mother and father, Bert Floyd and Martha Emaline (Thompson) Joiner, his brother Robert, his grandchild Christian Petersen and his greatgrandchild Corey Bushinski. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Norma (Bufford) Joiner of Tempe, his daughters Martha "Micki" Petersen, of Spanish Fork, UT, Jacqueline Bushinski of Spanish Fork, UT and Robbin (Robert) Hale of Salt Lake City, UT, as well as 7 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Arizona State Veteran Home employees for the care and compassion they showed him these last 3 1/2 years and in lieu of flowers, would suggest a donation to your favorite veteran or memory care organization in your community.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.LakeshoreMort.com for the JOINER family.
