

Jim served as a Captain of Marines during the Korean War. Jim received his Master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University which led him to a long career in Education. Jim was the Principal at Mesa Mountain View High School for 19 years. During his career, he was Principal of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale and the American International School in New Delhi, India. He was the Assistant Principal of Arcadia High School in Scottsdale and Grosse Point North High School in Grosse Pointe, MI. Jim was a Counselor, a teacher, a track coach, and the assistant football coach at Rich Township High School in Park Forest, IL. Jim’s career in Education began at Ypsilanti High School in Ypsilanti, MI as a social studies teacher and audio visual director.
Throughout his life, Jim received many honors. He received the Coe Fellowship in American Studies, Who’s Who in American Education, adjunct professor at for the College of Education at ASU, member of the College Board National Membership Committee, speaker at the NASSP for multiple years, and State Director of the Arizona Academic Decathlon for 3 years. Jim also received the Educational Leadership Award from the Tribune Newspaper in 1989. Jim was the past President of the Gold Canyon Lions.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha; son, James Edward III (Michelle); daughter, Catherine Mary Cline (William); grandson, Cale James Curlett; brother, Wallace Davis (Shirley); brother in law, Blaine Williams (Enes), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass for Jim will be held on Monday, April 29 at 11 am, with the Rosary service one half hour prior, at St. George Catholic Church, 300 E. 16th Ave, Apache Junction, AZ 85219. Private inurnment will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jim’s name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org.
