I feel so fortunate to have known Grandpa Jim my entire life. He was a fixture at Steve and Cindy's for as long as I can remember. Jim will be sorely missed but I'm certain there's a star shining extra  brightly now that he and Bev are side by side again. I hope the Rye family (my family, really) can take comfort in knowing that Grandpa left this life surrounded by love, as it should be. You're in my thoughts and my heart.

I have missed Jim, Beverly, and the entire family for the last 25 years. When you lived in Indiana, you were part of my family and you always will be in my heart. Jim will be missed on this earth, but he leaves his memories and again, he always be in my heart along with all of you. Susie Heath/Karst

I am privileged to say I knew Mr. Rye. He always corrected me when I called him Mr. That was his fathers name, not his. I spent a few shifts with him and I am proud to call him a friend. He will be missed.

 On Christmas Eve I found out my Grandpa was pretty much dying. Now, He's really the only grandfather I've ever known, and or been close to. and The next day, me and my dad were on a plane heading to Arizona to see him. God, this plane ride was awful. It was so packed and so uncomfortable. But, hey. Gotta do whatcha gotta do. The minute we get off the plane we are heading to the Hospital. He's hooked up to a venilator and apparently not even breathing on his own, So we all knew what was to come. It was just a matter of when. We went down and got food and all discussed what we were to do. We all decided we should take him off the venilator Christmas night as a present for him to see his Wife. What an amazing present right? well at 10:00 we are all sitting around looking at my Grandpa, crying and standing close. It was then I realized how amazing my family is. How no matter what, no matter who's unhappy with who we can all come together for a loved one, because not one person hated my Grandpa. He was honestly the nicest, most caring, and outgoing man I have ever met. I guess that's where my father got it. So we all sat and told stories. for hours of the day. Story after story of this amazing mans life. At 10:30 we took him off the venilator and obviously, he wasn't ready to go, because he started breathing on his own. Damn Grandpa, just didn't want to leave us yet. I think he was enjoying all the stories and remanicing. For the next couple days he sat there and just breathed. while we alls till stood around and told stories. we cried, we laughed, and we remembered together. Nothing was more beautiful to me then that. The holidays wasn't about the presents. It was about family. It was about love. God, I wish my mom could've been here to see how beautiful all this was. but I know she was thinking of us all day and all night. My grandpa passed Saturday, The 28th of December. at 3:45 in the morning. within minutes we were there by his side. When everything was over we went to Dunkin Doughnuts cause that was like my Grandpa's all time favorite place, so in his memory that's where we went. Family is so important. No matter how much you dont get along, or feel unimportant, or not part of it. You always are. and I know for sure. My Family. Is Beautiful.

What a life. Jim was surrounded by those who loved him for his entire life and right to the end and you know he has that little smile and is thinking "what story can I tell". Rest in Peace Jim . .  you will be missed.

We will miss Jim's smile and stories he had for all his life's experiences. Jim was a kind, gentle man that loved his family very much. I will think of him if I should see Little House on the Prairie as he would sit and watch reruns over and over.........He was loved very much.
